THeatre studies workshops

Students will explore the process of selecting, and analysing a prescribed monologue through a combination of dramaturgical investigation, theatrical analysis and design considerations.

The workshop is framed around the key knowledge and skills list from the study design:

● dramaturgy, exploring the contexts and intended meanings of the text

● contexts, theatrical possibilities, elements of theatre composition and theatre styles

● the interrelationships between acting, direction and design

Students will examine key concepts including monologue structure, text and beat analysis and character development.

They will also be introduced to approaches for making informed performance and/or design choices that support their artistic vision.

A central focus of the session will be Titania's monologue from A Midsummer Night's Dream (Act 2, Scene 1 + 2) from the 2025 Theatre Studies play list, which will be used as a case study to explore the areas of assessment through student participation around elements of theatre.
